Exhibiting in the ING Discerning Eye 2020 Show

I am delighted to say that my coloured pencil drawing ‘Daryl’ has been selected to be a part of the 2020 ING Discerning Eye exhibition.

This is a drawing that I am particularly fond of myself, and it was drawn with a single red pencil. In fact I used two and a half pencils to complete this artwork, but of a single pigment. Just as with graphite, the more layers and the denser the application of pencil, the darker the tones on the page, so a single colour can give a broad range in a monochrome piece such as this one.

The inspiration for this drawing came from the model Daryl himself. Some years ago I was fortunate enough to discover his photography, a selection of self portraits, in a small art exhibition in Falmouth, Cornwall. There was a potency and style to his work which instantly captivated me, so I contacted Daryl and had the pleasure of discussing all things portraits one afternoon over coffee. He generously granted me permission to draw from his photography, which led to this portrait and also Sculpted, another coloured pencil portrait which you can view in my gallery.

The ING Discerning Eye exhibition this year will be a virtual exhibition, held online, due to the exceptional circumstances we have all found ourselves in. This does however give a wider audience the opportunity to view the show, and from the comfort of your own home you can browse and purchase art from artists working in a wide range of media and styles.

The exhibition is running from Thursday 19th November at 7pm, till Thursday 31st December 2020.
