Galdie – commissioned pet portrait in pastel

This is the handsome Galdie, drawn using soft pastels on Pastelmat paper.

Gone but Never Forgotten

I was recently commissioned to draw a pastel portrait of Galdie, a much missed pet. These were the best photos Galdie’s owner had. You can see that they are far from ideal, thanks to aging and discolouring. It is commissions like this that really tug at my heart strings. Galdie’s owner still misses her so much, and he dearly wanted a special portrait of his long lost dog.

Galdie’s portrait was a gift from my client to her partner, and it now hangs on the wall of his London home. He was thrilled to recieve it, and this study of his dog brought tears to his eyes. He remarked that every time he looks at Galdie’s portrait more memories of her come back to him. I could hardly ask for a greater compliment.

I will talk you through the process of drawing Galdie in my upcoming Sketchbook post.
