I am delighted to be a member of this thriving art society, and to have been a contributing member to the winning entry with The Society for All Artists' (SAA) Layflat Sketch Pad competition. In November 2014 St.Austell Society of Artists (SASA) applied to take part in the SAA's competition to collaboratively complete one of 50 layflat sketch pads with original artwork.
Once we found out we were one of the participating groups, the scheduling mission began, as over the coming three months spanning the Christmas and New Year period, we needed to get the book between 21 different artists who would each have just three days to complete their artwork with their subject and medium of choice before passing it on to the next person. One of our strengths as an art society of the sheer range of experience, expertise and artistic styles, as well as our mutual enthusiasm for creativity. In mid February, the book was completed and we were extremely proud of our achievement, so with fingers crossed we sent it off to the SAA for judging.
Imagine our surprise and delight when we received word that we had won the first prize! It was a wonderful way to move into the forty first year of SASA and served to encourage us all the more to keep doing what we do and to celebrate all things art. You can see all of the entered books and the artwork inside on the SAA's website in their excellent online gallery here: http://www.saa.co.uk/layflat-gallery?oscsid=grkk22pnugavlu99cjd7ptmh27
