Tamsin Dearing English Countryside coloured pencil Copyright 2016

This drawing was unusual both in subject matter for me, and as it was a more collaborative approach with the client than is usually taken with a portrait. The client had an idea of what they wanted, so I created initial sketches and the design evolved between us as the drawing progressed.

It is a little under A4 size, and features favourite flowers and creatures which are quintessentially English. A bit of Springtime to enjoy all year round

Tamsin Dearing Sita Coloured Pencil Portrait Copyright 2016

Sita is the star of this coloured pencil portrait, and what a beautiful subject she was to draw too. It is my first full coloured pencil portrait, so was a very interesting process to undertake and I hope to be using this wonderful medium again soon for more colourful portraits of people.

This portrait has gone to live with Sita and her family in Belgium, and I hope that it is enjoyed for many years to come by all who see it.

ST.Dearing SASA Newquay Exhibition 1 2016t.Austell Society of Artists' autumn exhibition is being held this year at Trenance Cottages in Newquay. Nestled in stunning gardens, it is a peaceful setting which is ideal to showcase the artwork of local creatives.

The standard of work in the SASA exhibitions is very high, and the show features framed and unframed originals, prints and cards, with good sales reflecting the excellence displayed by the exhibitors.

Cornwall Life Fowey Art Trail T.Dearing 2016Fowey Art Trail has been featured in a great article in the April edition of Cornwall Life magazine. The Fowey Art Trail is running from the 7th - 14th May and you can visit artists in their studios, purchase artwork and support local independent makers. I will be at Taurus Art Gallery in Gallants Drive along with fellow exhibitors Maureen Bull, Karen Needham and Denise Parry, and we are venue number 1 on the trail. I will be working on new artwork throughout the week so you can see me in action and I will happily answer any questions that you may have.

Tamsin Dearing Posturing Peacock of Pencarrow Copyright 2016   JOAP longlist

This week I learned the very exciting news that my entry of Posturing Peacock of Pencarrow has been longlisted for the Jacksons Open Art Prize 2016. This is the first year I have entered myself into any art competitions, so to receive this recognition is extremely flattering and encouraging. JOAP is an international competition, and as an open event artwork in many different mediums and across any genre was accepted. My coloured pencil drawing is one of just 410 pictures chosen from 3100 entries!

You can see all the longlisted artworks here: www.jacksonsart.com/blog/2016/04/15/joap-longlist-announced  and you will find my drawing on page four. It is well worth browsing the selected entries as the standard is extremely high and there is definitely lots of creative inspiration to be had. The shortlist as selected by a panel of judges will be announced on the 29th April on the blog, very best of luck to all my fellow artists with the next round!

Tamsin Dearing Posturing Peacock of Pencarrow Copyright 2016

This coloured pencil portrait sold before I had shared the finished picture online. As a way to demonstrate the process of creating a drawing, I posted a step by step series (one stage a day, over 15 days of peacock season) of photographs on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/tamsindearingportraits

One of the followers fell in love with this beautiful fellow and his poses, and purchased the original and then waited to see the last few stages unfold. I was rather looking forward to having this drawing on my wall in my studio though am delighted that it has found such a happy home and will be enjoyed by others too.

Limited edition prints are available of Posturing Peacock of Pencarrow, with greetings cards coming soon, and if you visit me at the Fowey Art Trail next month you will be able to see a print framed and in all it's glory.

Fowey Art Trail PosterFowey Art Trail is running from 7th - 14th May, as a part of this year's Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature. I am delighted to be taking part in this open studios event and to be joining forces with fellow local artists Maureen Bull, Karen Needham and Denise Parry. Together we are exhibiting at Taurus Art Gallery (which is run by Maureen) and are the first stop on the trail of 16 artists' studios and venues around the picturesque town of Fowey on Cornwall's south coast.

I will be working on new artwork in both pastel and pencil throughout the week, and will be very happy to discuss how I create my pictures, the materials I use, and to demonstrate how I employ a range of techniques to create my pencil drawings and pastel paintings.

This is an excellent opportunity to view my artwork and to purchase original pictures, limited edition prints and greetings cards, and also to discuss and ideas you may have for commissioning a portrait of your own.

It is always a joy to meet others who are interested in the creative process, and to have the opportunity to be a part of an event like this which showcases the wealth of talent in this part of the world.

Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature is a longstanding annual event here in Cornwall, and attracts visitors from far and wide with its excellent programme of events. You can find full details of what is on offer this year on the website www.foweyfestival.com

Taurus Art Gallery can be found at Gallant's Drive near Readymoney car park in Fowey.
It will be open from 10:30am - 5pm every day from Saturday 7th till Saturday 14th May.
