Posturing Peacock of Pencarrow has sold!

Tamsin Dearing Posturing Peacock of Pencarrow Copyright 2016

This coloured pencil portrait sold before I had shared the finished picture online. As a way to demonstrate the process of creating a drawing, I posted a step by step series (one stage a day, over 15 days of peacock season) of photographs on my Facebook page

One of the followers fell in love with this beautiful fellow and his poses, and purchased the original and then waited to see the last few stages unfold. I was rather looking forward to having this drawing on my wall in my studio though am delighted that it has found such a happy home and will be enjoyed by others too.

Limited edition prints are available of Posturing Peacock of Pencarrow, with greetings cards coming soon, and if you visit me at the Fowey Art Trail next month you will be able to see a print framed and in all it's glory.

Fowey Art Trail

Fowey Art Trail PosterFowey Art Trail is running from 7th - 14th May, as a part of this year's Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature. I am delighted to be taking part in this open studios event and to be joining forces with fellow local artists Maureen Bull, Karen Needham and Denise Parry. Together we are exhibiting at Taurus Art Gallery (which is run by Maureen) and are the first stop on the trail of 16 artists' studios and venues around the picturesque town of Fowey on Cornwall's south coast.

I will be working on new artwork in both pastel and pencil throughout the week, and will be very happy to discuss how I create my pictures, the materials I use, and to demonstrate how I employ a range of techniques to create my pencil drawings and pastel paintings.

This is an excellent opportunity to view my artwork and to purchase original pictures, limited edition prints and greetings cards, and also to discuss and ideas you may have for commissioning a portrait of your own.

It is always a joy to meet others who are interested in the creative process, and to have the opportunity to be a part of an event like this which showcases the wealth of talent in this part of the world.

Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature is a longstanding annual event here in Cornwall, and attracts visitors from far and wide with its excellent programme of events. You can find full details of what is on offer this year on the website

Taurus Art Gallery can be found at Gallant's Drive near Readymoney car park in Fowey.
It will be open from 10:30am - 5pm every day from Saturday 7th till Saturday 14th May.

Rosie has Sold!

T.Dearing Rosie Pastels Copyright 2015In the first few days of the Spring exhibition at Truro's Lander Gallery, Rosie has found her way into the heart of a new home and has been sold. I don't know where she will soon be living, but I hope that wherever she goes she will continue to bring as many smiles to her new family as she has to me. Thank you to whomever is giving her her new home, and good bye Rosie, you will be missed!

Art with Roseland Surgery Patient Group

RSPG Clay Workshop 1 Copyright Tamsin Dearing 2016A series of art workshops are being arranged by Roseland Surgery Patient Group for the local community in this very beautiful part of Cornwall. They are encouraging those who are creatively confident and those who are less so to come together in a relaxed environment and enjoy learning new skills. The benefits of art for wellbeing are well documented and are being harnessed here to spread fun, build confidence and explore artistic expression whilst bringing village community members together.

Fellow artist and tutor Trevor Hawkins and myself have so far co-delivered a drawing workshop and a figure sculpture in clay workshop, with classes for progression planned over the coming months. To see all the photographs from these workshops you can browse the Roseland Sugery Patient Group Art Classes album on my Facebook page here: and Trevor's website featuring his great many artistic ventures here:

Latest Commissioned Portraits

Commissions T.Dearing Copyright 2015

These three drawings were commissioned for Christmas presents at the end of last year. It made for a very creative couple of months, drawing as fast as my pencils would take me and loving the fact that each picture was distinctly different from the next in both medium and subject.

First up is Morse, this beautiful Spaniel is on a windswept beach and was drawn in white pencil on black paper.

Next is Emma's Boys, drawn in graphite pencil. Featuring Emma of course and her two gorgeous sons, a wonderful moment caught where her second son was less than a day old and his big brother is clearly thrilled at the new arrival.

And then there is Dancer. He is possibly the most handsome horse I have ever met and made a wonderful model for this coloured pencil study.

Each of these portraits were drawn from photographs, and the clients received work in progress photographs from me as the drawings developed so they could enjoy seeing how the picture was created. The artworks now happily reside in homes across England, and I hope will be treasured for many years to come.

'Watching' Portrait Featured in Paint Magazine

SAA Tamsin Dearing Paint Portrait Gallery Watching fullsize

The Society for All Artists (SAA) ran a competition last year inviting their members to share portraits that they had created in their online gallery. I am delighted to say that my pencil portrait 'Watching', which was drawn using white pencil on black paper, was one of seven artworks chosen to be featured in their Paint magazine.

There are a great many beautiful portraits to enjoy and admire in the gallery so I was equally surprised and thrilled to turn the page of the January 2016 edition of Paint and see my picture there. Thank you SAA!

You can see the full gallery here www/ and can click to either 'like' or 'love' any pictures there as well as leave comments for the artists. The portrait with the most votes will receive a special SAA award.
