Fine Art Pencil Portraiture Exhibition
It is that time of year again, with just a few weeks to go before the opening of the 2014 Fine Art Pencil Portraiture Exhibition at the Countryside Barn, Lobbs Farm Shop,The Lost Gardens of Heligan near Mevagissey in Mid Cornwall.
It runs from Saturday 13th September to Friday 19th September, and will be an inspirational exhibition, showcasing the talent of local artists in this traditional fine art form.
The contributing artists all have attended Learn to Draw classes with myself. Some were artists in other mediums or were returning to drawing, and the majority had little or no artistic experience. So you can imagine it is a rather nerve wracking and very brave move to display their art to the public, and I am immensely proud of every single one of them, not least because I have seen just how hard they have worked to get here.
The exhibition is the third annual show of its kind, and is the biggest yet with over 100 pieces of original art from over 30 artists. By collaborating like this we aim to showcase the incredible achievement of all of the artists involved, to promote pencil portraiture and encourage others to also learn a new skill. Many of those whose work is featured previously believed that they were unable to draw, and even in some cases, un-teachable.
The contributors are largely from St.Austell and surrounding area, with others travelling from as far as Newlyn and Plymouth. For most this will be the first time that they have shown their work publically.
Throughout the exhibition, you can meet the artists and enjoy drawing demonstrations and even have a go at some sketching yourself! There will be original works of art, plus prints and greetings cards in a variety of mediums available to purchase.
Admission to the exhibition is free, as well as to Lobbs Farm Shop and Heligan's tea room, gift shop and plant centre. There is plenty of free parking and access is disabled friendly. Dogs are allowed onsite, though not inside the exhibition itself.
Opening times are: 9.30am - 5.00pm Monday to Saturday
and 10.30am - 4.30pm on Sunday
I will be there throughout, and I and my fellow exhibitors would love to see you there. Please do come along and support us, and help spread the word by sharing this with your friends and family.
Sold! I was delighted and very flattered to discover that someone likes this drawing enough to take it home, and even more so as he is a sculptor, specialising in dogs, whose work I love. This picture and three others of mine are showing in The Gallery - a pop up show in Bodmin, in the old Threshers shop opposite Wetherspoons. Pop in for a coffee and some culture if you are in the area, it is running till Sat 4th July.
You can see a selection of the work on display, and find out more about the exhibition and the brilliant volunteers of the Friends of St.Petrocs who have worked tirelessly to put the exhibition on as a part of their fundraising, on their website: www.thegallerybodmin.yolasite.com

St.Austell Society of Artists
St.Austell Society of Artists are celebrating their 40 year anniversary, and held a evening exhibition event to mark their Ruby year.
The exhibition consisted of 40 pieces of art by 40 members of the art society, and I am delighted to say that my pastel painting, 'Chestnut', did me proud and won 3rd prize in the art competition. A great compliment as the art was all outstanding, so thanks to all for a lovely way to remember a brilliant night.
New members are always welcome to join St.Austell Society of Artists (SASA). We are a friendly group who meet on Monday
evenings in Charlestown, and enjoy regular demonstrations from visiting artists, workshops, talks and outings, plus opportunities
to exhibit together. For more information, contact me or visit our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/staustellsocietyofartists
Learn to Draw
Pastel Portraiture is a new string to my creative bow. Thanks to expert tuition from local pastel artist, Amanda Rae Thompson, I have discovered the wonders of pastel art, and really enjoy working in this responsive and colourful medium. A gallery of pastel art is coming soon to my website, and I will be taking commissions for pastel paintings of people and animal portraits - details to follow.
