A Handful of Salt is the second artwork in what will be a series of six studies of old hands. As with A Handful of Chillies before it, A Handful of Salt has also been drawn with pastel on Pastelmat paper. I love the dynamism of this image, the tumbling salt crystals against that bright blue sky, and the wonderful hands rich in colour and experience doing something that no doubt they have done thousands of times before.
I have to say that I also love salty foods, perhaps more than I should do! So this is a subject that is dear to my heart. And although our trades are very different, I feel a connection to those who also work with their hands.
Once the full series of hands studies has been completed, I will make available limited edition prints and greetings cards of A Handful of Salt and others.
Thanks go to Rehahn Photography for his amazing image.
